In three of my six meetings today I explained the context around different decisions that need to be made and said, “And so I just don’t know what to do.” In one case, I explained the sticky dilemma I’m facing and was told, “That helps me. That’s enough. I don’t need more of an answer than that.” And in all three cases, I left the meeting with a better idea of how to solve the puzzle than before I discussed it with my colleagues.
Being the leader doesn’t mean being infallible or invincible. It just means you’re standing in front. If you’re lucky, there’s a crowd behind you giving you the extra oomph you need to keep moving. Today in particular I know I’m lucky.
