One of my favorite Amanda Palmer songs is Australia, in which she has chosen Australia as the place she’s going to go to when she shucks off her responsibilities and decides to be the kind of person she wants to be. I have a whole lot of responsibilities, and I’m pretty close to the person I want to be, but I’m gonna go to Australia anyway.
No, really.
I will be the keynote speaker for the 6th New Librarians’ Symposium, this year held in Brisbane, Australia, in February 2013. I’ve also agreed to do a workshop of some sort, to be determined as I collaborate with the organizers further. (You can find more information about the symposium on their website.)
And I’m ridiculously excited. A chance to visit a place I’ve never been before, and talk to a bunch of new library professionals about leadership, making different choices, and stretching our boundaries? OKAY, YES PLEASE, THAT IS WHAT I DO, YES, THAT. I’ll be assisting with publicity for NLS6, and undoubtedly writing more here, too. Stay tuned. I’m thrilled that I’ve been offered this opportunity, and I hope that if Australia is home to you and librarians are your tribe, you’ll consider joining us.
I’ll be the one bouncing up and down with joy and singing along to profane piano tunes about your fair continent.
That is so amazingly exciting!!! Good on ya, mate!!!

This could only be more perfect if NLS6 were going to be held in (the map of) Tasmania.
The actual, geographical one, that is.
