a task force will begin dialogue on guidance for next steps

Reading this Twitter thread hurt. We all like to feel positive emotions about our work, our vocation, our communities. So that thread hurt. It needed to hurt. It should hurt, to reflect its hurt on those we were supposed to support. Because I’ve heard all of those things as an academic administrator. I’ve been complicit in many of them.

Without accompanying action, they are just as empty as thoughts and prayers. How many times have our Black students said “but what are you going to do? Is anything going to happen? Is anything going to CHANGE?”

Confronting whiteness happens on all fronts. I’ve been trying to do the work as a human being. It’s time to do the work as an academic professional as well. I don’t know what that path looks like – that’s the problem – but I’m listening, and I’m going to find one.
